DESCRIPTION

1.1 This standard is a compilation of definitions of terms as they are used in standards under the jurisdiction of Committee D19.

1.2 Terminology specific to a D19 subcommittee under the jurisdiction of Committee D19 is included in specialized standards. For example, Terminologies D7902 and D6161.

1.3 In the event of conflict between definitions in Terminology D1129 and definitions in other D19 Terminology standards, the definitions in Terminology D1129 shall govern all Committee D19 standards.

1.4 When a term is used in an ASTM standard for which Committee D19 is responsible, it is included herein only if used in more than one Committee D19 standard. Common terms, used in multiple D19 standards, and common terms for the analysis of water included in Terminology D1129 need not be included in each individual standard provided proper reference to Terminology D1129 is made in the individual standards.

1.5 Terminology approved in Terminology D1129 standards may be added to Terminology D1129 editorially, according to the Committee D19 bylaws. Editorial revisions of Terminology D1129 will be noted next to the latest approval year of the standard by the ASTM Editor according to Form and Style for ASTM Standards.

1.6 The deletion of any term or definition, or both, is a technical change and will require ballot action.

1.7 Subcommittee D19.12 on Terminology is responsible for the required periodic review of this standard to determine if the current content is still appropriate. Revisions will be proposed when determined appropriate.

1.8 This standard includes notes and discussions of definitions that provide supplementary or explanatory information. These notes and discussions shall not be considered as requirements of this standard nor as parts of the definitions.

1.9 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
