DESCRIPTION
BS 3900-A8:1986
This standard BS 3900-A8:1986 Methods of test for paints. Tests on liquid paints (excluding chemical tests) is classified in these ICS categories:
- 87.040 Paints and varnishes
This International Standard specifies a method to determine if a flammable material such as a paint, varnish, paint binder, solvent, petroleum or a related product, when maintained at a selected equilibrium temperature and under the conditions of the test, gives off sufficient flammable vapour at this temperature to cause ignition on application of an external source of flame applied in a standard manner.
The method is suitable for use over the temperature range 5 to 65 °C, although some of the apparatus listed in Annex A cannot cover all of this range using the thermometer supplied with the apparatus. The procedure also makes allowance for deviations from standard atmospheric pressure.
Method for testing whether the flashpoint of a sample of paint, or of petroleum or a related product, is below a selected value in the temperature range 5° to 65° using alternative closed cups including Abel, Abel-Pensky, Pensky-Martens and Tag by reference to various national standards. (See BS 3900-A9, A13 and A14).
