DESCRIPTION
BS 6072:1981
This standard BS 6072:1981 Method for magnetic particle flaw detection is classified in these ICS categories:
- 77.040.20 Non-destructive testing of metals
This British Standard specifies techniques and procedures for magnetic particle flaw detection of ferromagnetic materials. Magnetic particle flaw detection is primarily used for the detection of surface-breaking flaws, particularly cracks. It can also detect flaws just below the surface, but its sensitivity diminishes rapidly with depth.
Covers magnetizing and associated equipment; detecting media; safety precautions; testing procedures; surface preparation; magnetization; application of detecting medium; viewing; recording of indications; reporting; demagnetization. Appendices cover selection of techniques, areas to be inspected, test pieces, report, technique and procedure sheets and preservation of indications. See also PD 6513.
