Status: Standard

Overview

Introducing the BS EN ISO 10619-2:2021, a comprehensive standard that provides detailed guidelines for the measurement of flexibility and stiffness in rubber and plastics hoses and tubing, specifically through bending tests conducted at sub-ambient temperatures. This standard is essential for ensuring the quality and performance of hoses and tubing used in various industrial applications where low-temperature conditions are prevalent.

Key Features

  • Comprehensive Guidelines: This standard offers a thorough methodology for conducting bending tests, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
  • Sub-Ambient Temperature Testing: Focuses on the performance of hoses and tubing in low-temperature environments, which is critical for applications in cold climates or refrigerated systems.
  • Quality Assurance: Adhering to this standard helps manufacturers and users maintain high-quality products that meet international benchmarks.
  • Industry Relevance: Applicable to a wide range of industries including automotive, aerospace, marine, and industrial manufacturing.

Detailed Description

The BS EN ISO 10619-2:2021 standard is an indispensable resource for professionals involved in the design, manufacturing, and testing of rubber and plastics hoses and tubing. It provides a structured approach to measuring the flexibility and stiffness of these materials, which are critical parameters affecting their performance and durability.

This standard is particularly valuable for applications where hoses and tubing are exposed to sub-ambient temperatures. Such conditions can significantly impact the material properties, leading to potential failures if not properly accounted for. By following the guidelines set forth in this standard, manufacturers can ensure that their products are capable of withstanding the rigors of low-temperature environments.

The document spans 18 pages and includes detailed procedures for conducting bending tests. It outlines the necessary equipment, test conditions, and evaluation criteria, providing a clear and concise framework for testing. The standard also includes illustrative diagrams and tables to aid in the understanding and implementation of the test methods.

Benefits of Compliance

Compliance with the BS EN ISO 10619-2:2021 standard offers numerous benefits, including:

  • Enhanced Product Reliability: Ensures that hoses and tubing perform reliably under low-temperature conditions, reducing the risk of failures and associated downtime.
  • Market Competitiveness: Products that meet this standard are more likely to be accepted in international markets, enhancing their competitiveness.
  • Customer Confidence: Demonstrates a commitment to quality and adherence to international standards, fostering trust and confidence among customers.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Helps manufacturers meet regulatory requirements and industry standards, avoiding potential legal and financial repercussions.

Who Should Use This Standard?

DESCRIPTION

BS EN ISO 10619-2:2021

This standard BS EN ISO 10619-2:2021 Rubber and plastics hoses and tubing. Measurement of flexibility and stiffness is classified in these ICS categories:
  • 23.040.70 Hoses and hose assemblies

This document specifies two methods for measuring the stiffness and one method for the determination of the flexibility of rubber and plastics hoses and tubing when they are bent to a specific radius at sub-ambient temperatures.

Method A is suitable for non-collapsible rubber and plastics hoses and tubing with a bore of up to and including 25 mm. This method provides a means of measuring the stiffness of the hose or tubing when the temperature is reduced from a standard laboratory temperature.

Method B is suitable for rubber and plastics hoses and tubing with a bore of up to 100 mm and provides a means of assessing the flexibility of the hose or tubing when bent around a mandrel at a specified sub-ambient temperature. It can also be used as a routine quality control test.

Method C is suitable for rubber and plastics hoses and tubing with a bore of 100 mm and greater. This method provides a means of measuring the stiffness of the hose and tubing at sub-ambient temperatures. This method is only suitable for hoses and tubing which are non-collapsible.
