DESCRIPTION

BS EN ISO 22232-1 is the first in a three-part series of international standards on characterizing and verifying ultrasonic non-destructive test equipment.

BS EN ISO 22232-1:2020 covers testing instruments, while BS EN 12668-1:2010 and ISO 12710:2002 deal with probes and with combined equipment.

BS EN ISO 22232-1:2020 is recommended for:

The oil and gas, aerospace, nuclear and energy industries, specifically:

  • Testing equipment manufacturers
  • Testing companies
  • Companies holding tested materials
  • Insurance companies

It specifies methods and acceptance criteria for assessing the electrical performance of digital ultrasonic instruments for pulse operation using A-scan display, operating within the frequency range 0,5 MHz to 15 MHz, for manual ultrasonic non-destructive testing with single or dual-element probes.

It also applies to multi-channel instruments and may be partly applicable to ultrasonic instruments in automated systems, but then other tests can be needed to ensure satisfactory performance.

NOTE: Ultrasonic instruments for continuous waves are not included in this document. Ultrasonic phased array instruments are not included in this document, see e. g. ISO 18563-1. If a phased array instrument has dedicated connectors for single or dual element probes this document is applicable for these channels.

BS EN ISO 22232-1:2020 contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goal 9 on industry, innovation and infrastructure and Goal 11 on making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe and resilient. Specifically the standard underpins safety in the oil and gas, aerospace, nuclear and energy industries.

Under the Vienna Agreement, European and international standards are harmonized where possible. As a result BS EN ISO 22232-1:2020 is a new international standard that revises and replaces both BS EN 12668-1:2010 Characterization and verification of ultrasonic examination equipment. Instruments and ISO 12710:2002 Ultrasonic inspection. Evaluating electronic characteristics of ultrasonic test instruments .

This standard BS EN ISO 22232-1:2020 Non-destructive testing. Characterization and verification of ultrasonic test equipment is classified in these ICS categories:

  • 19.100 Non-destructive testing

This document specifies methods and acceptance criteria within the frequency range of 0,5 MHz to 15 MHz, for assessing the electrical performance of digital ultrasonic instruments for pulse operation using A-scan display, for manual ultrasonic non-destructive testing with single- or dual-transducer probes. This document is also applicable for multi-channel instruments. This document can partly be applicable to ultrasonic instruments in automated systems, but other tests can be needed to ensure satisfactory performance.

This document excludes ultrasonic instruments for continuous waves.

This document also excludes ultrasonic phased array instruments, see e.g. ISO 18563-1. If a phased array instrument has dedicated connectors for single- or dual-transducer probes this document is applicable for these channels.
