This International Standard de­fines commonly used terms relat­ing to frames for spectacles and eyeglasses and lists equivalent terms in English, French, Rus­sian, German, Italian, Spanish, American English, Japanese (with phonetic transcription) and Chinese for parts of such frames.

It is not applicable to goggles.

NOTE 1 In addition to the terms used in the three official ISO languages (English, French and Russian), this International Standard gives the equivalent terms in German, Italian, Spanish, American English, Japanese (with phonetic transcription) and Chinese; these have been included at the request of ISO/TC 172 and are published under the responsibility of the member bodies for Germany (DIN), Italy (UNI), Spain (AENOR), USA (ANSI), Japan (JISC) and China (SAC). However, only the terms and definitions given in the official languages can be considered as ISO terms.
