DESCRIPTION

BS IEC 60050-113:2011

This standard BS IEC 60050-113:2011 International electrotechnical vocabulary is classified in these ICS categories:
  • 01.040.07 Mathematics. Natural sciences (Vocabularies)
  • 29.020 Electrical engineering in general
  • 01.040.29 Electrical engineering (Vocabularies)
  • 07.030 Physics. Chemistry

This part of IEC 60050 gives the general terminology on physical concepts used in the fields of electricity, electronics and telecommunications.

Its target is to collect the most usual concepts in space and time, macroscopic physics, mechanics, thermodynamics, particle physics, and solid-state physics, and to present them as terms and descriptions given in logical order according to their interdependence. The descriptions are definitions from the terminological point of view, but they are not always complete definitions in physical sense. Their main goal is to distinguish among particular concepts. In consequence, this part of the IEV should not be regarded as a physical textbook, but rather as a set of terms with their equivalents in many languages and with descriptions in the main IEV languages.

This IEV part is consistent with the relevant parts of ISO/IEC 80000, Quantities and units.

This horizontal standard is primarily intended for use by technical committees in the preparation of standards in accordance with the principles laid down in IEC Guide 108.

One of the responsibilities of a technical committee is, wherever applicable, to make use of horizontal standards in the preparation of its publications. The contents of this horizontal standard will not apply unless specifically referred to or included in the relevant publications.
