Understanding E-UTRAN and D2D Communications

The Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN) is a key component of the LTE (Long Term Evolution) network architecture, providing high-speed wireless communication for mobile phones and data terminals. E-UTRAN is designed to support a wide range of services, from voice calls to high-speed data transfer, making it an essential part of modern communication networks.

Device to Device (D2D) communications, on the other hand, enable direct communication between devices without the need for a centralized network infrastructure. This technology is particularly beneficial in scenarios where network coverage is limited or unavailable, such as in remote areas or during emergencies. By facilitating direct communication between devices, D2D technology enhances the efficiency and reliability of communication systems.

Why BS ISO 17515-2:2020 is Essential for Intelligent Transport Systems

The BS ISO 17515-2:2020 standard provides comprehensive guidelines for implementing E-UTRAN D2D communications in intelligent transport systems. By adhering to this standard, organizations can ensure that their communication systems are robust, efficient, and capable of meeting the demands of modern transport networks.

Some of the key benefits of implementing this standard include:

  • Enhanced Communication Efficiency: By enabling direct communication between devices, D2D technology reduces the reliance on centralized network infrastructure, leading to faster and more efficient communication.
  • Improved Reliability: In scenarios where network coverage is limited, D2D communications provide a reliable alternative, ensuring that communication remains uninterrupted.
  • Scalability: The guidelines provided in the standard allow for the seamless integration of new devices and technologies, ensuring that the communication system can grow and adapt to changing needs.
  • Cost-Effectiveness: By reducing the need for extensive network infrastructure, D2D communications can lead to significant cost savings for organizations.

Applications of BS ISO 17515-2:2020 in Intelligent Transport Systems

The applications of the BS ISO 17515-2:2020 standard are vast and varied, making it an invaluable resource for a wide range of industries. Some of the key applications include:

  • Emergency Services: In emergency situations, reliable communication is crucial. D2D technology ensures that emergency responders can communicate effectively, even in areas with limited network coverage.
  • Public Transport: By implementing D2D communications, public transport systems can enhance the efficiency and reliability of their communication networks, leading to improved service for passengers.
  • Logistics and Supply Chain Management: Efficient communication is essential for the smooth operation of logistics and supply chain networks. The BS ISO 17515-2:2020 standard provides the guidelines needed to implement reliable communication systems in these industries.
  • Smart Cities: As cities become increasingly connected, the need for efficient communication systems becomes more important. The BS ISO 17515-2:2020 standard provides the framework needed to implement advanced communication systems in smart cities.

Conclusion

The BS ISO 17515-2:2020 standard is a vital resource for anyone involved in the development and implementation of intelligent transport systems. By providing comprehensive guidelines for E-UTRAN D2D communications, this standard ensures that communication systems are efficient, reliable, and capable of meeting the demands of modern transport networks. Whether you are involved in emergency services, public transport, logistics, or smart city development, the BS ISO 17515-2:2020 standard is an essential tool for ensuring the success of your communication systems.

DESCRIPTION

BS ISO 17515-2:2020

This standard BS ISO 17515-2:2020 Intelligent transport systems. Evolved universal terrestrial radio access network (E-UTRAN) is classified in these ICS categories:
  • 35.240.60 IT applications in transport
  • 03.220.20 Road transport

This document provides specification on the ITS-Station (ITS-S) access layer for a communication interface (CI) named "ITS-LTE-D2D".

This specification is appropriate in the context of LTE-D2D communications that are being used for the dissemination of ITS information from an ITS-SU to other ITS-SUs, where these ITS-SUs can be either vehicle ITS-SUs, roadside ITS-SUs, or personal ITS-SUs, as specified in ISO 21217. It provides a combination of options from relevant ETSI/3GPP releases and ITS-station management standards in ISO 24102 to enable and achieve this objective.

ITS-LTE-D2D CIs are based on the evolved-universal terrestrial radio access network (E-UTRAN) device-to-device (LTE-D2D) technology standardized at 3GPP Release 13.

This document enables the use of the LTE-D2D technology as an ITS access technology in an ITS station by reference to respective specifications from 3GPP, and by specifying details of the Communication Adaptation Layer (CAL) and the Management Adaptation Entity (MAE) of CIs specified in ISO 21218.
