Why Choose BS ISO 20144:2019?

Fibre-reinforced plastic composites are increasingly used in a wide range of industries due to their high strength-to-weight ratio, durability, and versatility. However, ensuring that these materials meet the necessary standards is crucial for their safe and effective use. The BS ISO 20144:2019 standard provides a detailed framework for the qualification of these materials, helping you to ensure that they meet the required performance and safety standards.

The standard is designed to be flexible, with both a Reduced Qualification Plan (RQP) and an Extended Qualification Plan (EQP) scheme. This means that you can choose the level of qualification that is most appropriate for your needs, whether you require a basic level of qualification or a more comprehensive assessment.

Applications

The BS ISO 20144:2019 standard is applicable to a wide range of industries and applications, including:

  • Aerospace
  • Automotive
  • Construction
  • Marine
  • Renewable energy

In each of these industries, the use of fibre-reinforced plastic composites can offer significant benefits in terms of performance, weight reduction, and cost savings. However, it is essential to ensure that these materials are properly qualified to meet the specific requirements of each application.

Benefits of Using BS ISO 20144:2019

By following the guidelines set out in the BS ISO 20144:2019 standard, you can benefit from:

  • Improved Safety: Ensure that your composite materials meet the necessary safety standards, reducing the risk of failure and improving overall safety.
  • Enhanced Performance: By ensuring that your materials are properly qualified, you can improve their performance and reliability.
  • Cost Savings: By choosing the appropriate level of qualification, you can avoid unnecessary costs while still ensuring that your materials meet the required standards.
  • Flexibility: The standard provides a flexible approach to qualification, allowing you to choose the level of qualification that is most appropriate for your needs.

Conclusion

The BS ISO 20144:2019 standard is an essential resource for anyone involved in the design, manufacturing, or testing of fibre-reinforced plastic composites. By providing a comprehensive framework for the qualification of these materials, it helps to ensure that they meet the necessary standards for performance and safety. Whether you are working in the aerospace, automotive, construction, marine, or renewable energy industries, this standard can help you to achieve the best possible results with your composite materials.

Invest in the BS ISO 20144:2019 standard today and ensure that your composite materials are qualified to the highest standards.

DESCRIPTION

BS ISO 20144:2019

This standard BS ISO 20144:2019 Fibre-reinforced plastic composites. Standard qualification plan (SQP) for composite materials, including reduced qualification plan (RQP) and extended qualification plan (EQP) schemes is classified in these ICS categories:
  • 83.120 Reinforced plastics

1.1

This document specifies a procedure for the initial qualification of composite materials in order to allow quality control, material selection and preliminary design to be undertaken. It provides a single procedure allowing quicker and lower cost qualification compared to multiple bi-lateral qualification against different bespoke user needs. This document focuses on developing B-basis design allowables.

1.2

The procedure comprises a standard qualification plan (SQP) that includes the minimum common test requirements for more highly anisotropic composite materials. Further test requirements are encompassed in an extended qualification plan (EQP), which includes options representing specific in-service features. A reduced qualification plan (RQP) scheme, using the same core structure of test plate preparation and test methods as the SQP, is available for less highly anisotropic and tending towards nominally isotropic composite materials.

1.3

The procedure is suitable for fibre-reinforced thermoset, and thermoplastic, based material systems intended for structural or semi-structural applications. Individual test method standards referred to in this document provide more details as to the classes and types of composite materials that are covered in each case.

1.4

Annexes A and B are included to support presentation of the data obtained in a consistent database and to provide statistical procedures for the determination of B-basis design allowables, respectively.
