This document gives safety requirements for the application, operation, maintenance, transport, tow, assembly and storage of industrial trucks (hereafter referred to as trucks) as defined in ISO 5053-1.

It applies to the following truck types:

  1. counterbalance lift trucks;

  2. reach trucks (with retractable mast or retractable fork arm carriage);

  3. straddle trucks;

  4. pallet-stacking trucks;

  5. platform trucks;

  6. double stackers;

  7. side-loading trucks (one side only);

  8. lateral-stacking trucks (both sides), and lateral- and front-stacking trucks;

  9. order-picking trucks;

  10. bidirectional and multidirectional trucks;

  11. counterbalance container handlers;

  12. articulated counterbalance lift trucks;

  13. variable-reach trucks;

  14. pallet trucks;

  15. platform and stillage trucks;

  16. tractors with a drawbar pull up to and including 20 000 N;

  17. burden and personnel carriers;

  18. trucks powered by battery, diesel, gasoline or gas (e.g. LPG, CNG, LNG).

Automated functions and driverless variants of the above list of trucks are also considered part of this scope.
