BS ISO 3209:2016 Aerospace Nuts

BS ISO 3209:2016 Aerospace Nuts

Introducing the BS ISO 3209:2016 Aerospace Nuts, a meticulously crafted standard that defines the specifications for anchor nuts used in aerospace applications. This standard is essential for professionals in the aerospace industry who demand precision, reliability, and performance in their components.

Product Overview

The BS ISO 3209:2016 standard provides comprehensive guidelines for self-locking, floating anchor nuts with two lugs and a counterbore, designed to meet the rigorous demands of aerospace engineering. These nuts are equipped with MJ threads, ensuring a secure and robust connection in high-stress environments.

Key Features

  • Self-Locking Mechanism: The self-locking feature ensures that the nuts remain securely fastened, even under extreme conditions, reducing the risk of loosening due to vibration or thermal expansion.
  • Floating Design: The floating characteristic allows for slight misalignments during installation, providing flexibility and ease of assembly in complex aerospace structures.
  • Two-Lug Configuration: The two-lug design offers enhanced stability and load distribution, making these nuts ideal for critical applications where reliability is paramount.
  • Counterbore Feature: The counterbore design facilitates a flush fit, minimizing protrusion and ensuring aerodynamic efficiency in aerospace applications.
  • MJ Threads: The use of MJ threads provides superior strength and fatigue resistance, essential for maintaining integrity in high-pressure environments.

Performance Classifications

The BS ISO 3209:2016 standard classifies these aerospace nuts based on their performance at various temperatures:

  • 1 100 MPa at Ambient Temperature/235 °C: Suitable for applications requiring high strength and moderate temperature resistance.
  • 1 100 MPa at Ambient Temperature/315 °C: Ideal for environments with elevated temperatures, maintaining performance without compromising safety.
  • 1 100 MPa at Ambient Temperature/425 °C: Designed for extreme temperature conditions, ensuring reliability and durability in the most demanding aerospace applications.

Technical Specifications

This standard is documented in a 14-page publication, providing detailed dimensions and specifications to ensure compliance and uniformity in aerospace manufacturing. Released on March 31, 2016, it carries the ISBN: 978 0 580 86447 6, making it easily identifiable and accessible for industry professionals.

DESCRIPTION

BS ISO 3209:2016

This standard BS ISO 3209:2016 Aerospace. Nuts, anchor, self-locking, floating, two lug, with counterbore, with MJ threads, classifications: 1 100 MPa (at ambient temperature)/235 °C, 1 100 MPa (at ambient temperature)/315 °C and 1 100 MPa (at ambient temperature)/ 425 °C. Dimensions is classified in these ICS categories:
  • 49.030.30 Nuts

This International Standard specifies the dimensions of self-locking, floating, two lug anchor nuts, with counterbore, with MJ threads, of classifications: 1 100 MPa/235 °C, 1 100 MPa/315 °C and 1 100 MPa/425 °C.

NOTE 1 1 100 MPa corresponds to the minimum tensile stress which the nut is able to withstand at ambient temperature without breaking or cracking when tested with a bolt of a higher strength class.

NOTE 2 235 °C, 315 °C and 425 °C corresponds to the maximum temperature that the nut is able to withstand without permanent alteration to its original characteristics, after ambient temperature has been restored. The maximum temperature is conditioned by the surface treatment.

This International Standard is only applicable for the compilation of aerospace product standards.
