Kmenová specifikace optických atenuátorů je obsažena v normě IEC 60869-1. Norma obsahuje normativní přílohu A, která uvádí sled zkoušek pro jednovidové nekonektorované neproměnné atenuátory, kategorie O. Optické parametry stanovené v této normě se týkají pouze nekonektorovaných optických atenuátorů.
