Norma nemění požadavky definované v ISO/IEC 20000-1. Tuto normu mohou také používat akreditační orgány pro akreditaci certifikačních orgánů. Certifikační orgány, které certifikují SMS systémy, by měli být schopni prokázat splnění požadavků definovaných jak v ISO/IEC 17021-1, tak i v této normě.
