DESCRIPTION
IEEE 152-1991
The peak-program meter (PPM) is designed for directly measuring the quasi-peak level of complex electrical audio signals occurring in the transmission or recording of an audio program in order to achieve optimum technical utilization of the transmission channel or recording medium. For this purpose, full-wave rectification is used, and the integration time is chosen to indicate the level of those peaks that would cause audible nonlinear distortion if they were clipped or otherwise severely distorted by the transmission channel or recording medium. The PPM can therefore be used to indicate the peak level that the channel or medium must accommodate if audible distortion is to be avoided. This standard refers to the overall characteristic of the PPM and not the performance of its component parts.Revision Standard - Inactive-Withdrawn. Withdrawn Standard. Withdrawn Date: Mar 06, 2000. No longer endorsed by the IEEE. The needs and requirements specific to the design, procurement, construction, mainte-nance, and operation of a microwave system are addressed. Steps for a variety of applications have been included in this guide; however, users should select only those steps that apply to their par-ticular system(s) and their procurement policies.
