Overview

In the rapidly evolving world of urban transportation, the need for efficient and intelligent systems is more critical than ever. The PD CEN/TS 17380:2019 standard is a pivotal document that addresses the management of 'Controlled Zones' for Urban Vehicle Access Regulations (UVARs) using Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS). This standard is essential for urban planners, transport authorities, and technology developers who are working towards creating smarter, more sustainable urban environments.

What is PD CEN/TS 17380:2019?

The PD CEN/TS 17380:2019 standard provides a comprehensive framework for managing 'Controlled Zones' in urban areas. These zones are critical for regulating vehicle access to reduce congestion, improve air quality, and enhance the overall quality of life in cities. By utilizing C-ITS, this standard enables real-time communication between vehicles and infrastructure, facilitating more efficient traffic management and enforcement of UVARs.

Key Features

  • Comprehensive Guidelines: The standard offers detailed guidelines for implementing and managing 'Controlled Zones' using C-ITS technologies.
  • Enhanced Traffic Management: By leveraging real-time data exchange, cities can optimize traffic flow and reduce congestion.
  • Environmental Benefits: Effective management of vehicle access can lead to significant reductions in emissions, contributing to cleaner urban air.
  • Improved Safety: With better control over vehicle access, the standard helps enhance road safety for all users.

Why Choose PD CEN/TS 17380:2019?

As cities grow and evolve, the challenges of urban transportation become more complex. The PD CEN/TS 17380:2019 standard is designed to address these challenges by providing a robust framework for the implementation of intelligent transport systems. By adopting this standard, cities can ensure that their transportation networks are not only efficient but also sustainable and future-proof.

Applications

This standard is applicable to a wide range of urban environments, from bustling city centers to quieter residential areas. It is particularly beneficial for:

  • Urban Planners: Who need to design and implement effective traffic management strategies.
  • Transport Authorities: Responsible for enforcing vehicle access regulations and ensuring compliance.
  • Technology Developers: Creating innovative solutions for smart city infrastructure.

Implementation and Benefits

Implementing the PD CEN/TS 17380:2019 standard involves integrating C-ITS technologies into existing urban infrastructure. This integration allows for seamless communication between vehicles and traffic management systems, enabling dynamic control of 'Controlled Zones'. The benefits of this approach include:

  • Real-Time Data Utilization: Access to up-to-date traffic information allows for immediate adjustments to traffic flow and vehicle access.
  • Cost Efficiency: By optimizing traffic management, cities can reduce the need for costly infrastructure expansions.
  • Scalability: The standard is designed to be scalable, making it suitable for cities of all sizes.

Conclusion

The PD CEN/TS 17380:2019 standard is a crucial tool for any city looking to enhance its transportation systems through intelligent technology. By providing a clear framework for the management of 'Controlled Zones', this standard helps cities achieve their goals of reducing congestion, improving air quality, and ensuring the safety of all road users. Embrace the future of urban transportation with PD CEN/TS 17380:2019 and take a significant step towards creating smarter, more sustainable cities.

DESCRIPTION

PD CEN/TS 17380:2019

This standard PD CEN/TS 17380:2019 Intelligent transport systems. Urban-ITS. 'Controlled Zone' management for UVARs using C-ITS is classified in these ICS categories:
  • 03.220.20 Road transport
  • 35.240.60 IT applications in transport
This document will provide information and specifications enabling management of road traffic in controlled zones applying geofencing. Specifically, this document provides — a "Controlled Zone Road Traffic Management Data Dictionary" (CZRTMDD) for management of controlled zones providing a toolkit that regulators can use e.g. to — inform a CZ user, e.g. a vehicle, in advance of entry to a controlled zone about — access conditions, e.g. vehicle categories, power trains, etc., and — the time windows indicating when these access conditions are applicable. — inform a vehicle at the point of entry to a controlled zone about currently applicable access conditions; — and illustrations and guidelines on how to use this toolkit. The toolkit is designed in compliance with the general ITS station and communications architecture specified in ISO 21217], and optionally applicable C-ITS protocols and procedures, e.g. ISO 22418:2018, CEN/EN 18750:2018, and EN 17419.
